Next week there will be elections in The Netherlands. One of the participants is Geert Wilders. Silence is Sexy is amazed by the emergence this right-wing politician and the fear he is spreading as a solution to all problems. At the same time other politicians – afraid of losing votes – are also stating that The Netherlands aren’t doing well. While in reality and in comparison to other parts of the world, the band strongly feels that the contrary is true.
So we wrote a song about it. It's called Here Comes The Wave. Download (pay what you want) / listen / embed the song through bandcamp. If you prefer to pay 99 cents in iTunes, that's okay with us. We made a video using public domain footage:
The international short film festival Go Short organised a cool workshop for kids. They made music video's for our song Come Back To You using the camera's of their mobile phones. Our personal favorite is the very atmospheric video by Elja, Masha and Fleur. Check out the results below:
In 2006 we recorded a postrock-ish version of the Tom Waits / Gavin Byars song 'Jesus Blood Never Failed Me Yet'. This song is now featured on the 'Christmas Candy from the Netherlands'-sampler. Download it through bandcamp or get the torrent at Mininova. Happy holiday season!
In the meanwhile we are recording new stuff in the studio. We regularly put updates and pictures on Twitter and Facebook. Follow us to stay in touch!
To celebrate the first aniversary of our album This Ain't Hollywood, we recorded an EP with four songs from this record in a complete different setting. Hendrik-Jan sung these songs together with the Cuban Royal Republican Orchestra. The young and very talented arranger en director Sander Zwiep did a great job arranging our songs Hollywood-movie-soundtrack-style. Listen / download and enjoy! Get a torrent at Mininova. Or download directly from Bandcamp (pay what you want, nothing is okay).
Yesterday the main Dutch national TV-news NOS-Journaal did an item about the Mininova court-case and Creative Commons. As a part of that, Pim was interviewed in the Mailmen studio. He talks about why it is a good thing when loads of people download your music.
For the Coverclub's Guilty Pleasures edition we recorded our version of Michael Jackson's Billie Jean. Other artists on this 10-song compilation include Anne Soldaat (ex Daryll-Ann), Solo, Pien Feith and Ponoka. Download it for free on www.coverclub.nl. And please spread the word (Blog, Tweet, Facebook, Last.FM) if you like it.
You know we love to share our music for free. If you want to thank us for doing so, share our music with your friends and ask them to do the same thing. An other way to show your appreciation is to make a PayPal donation or order a CD (or two).
At the moment we are working on songs for our third album. And we have big plans. Think real strings, horns, church organs, trumpets, vibraphone's and so on. You can imagine we can do with a little more budget for this. So if you want to help us make our dreams come true, hit the button below!
We noticed that lots of people like to use our music for their (YouTube) movies. Check out some examples here and here and here and here. That's great! So we decided to give you some more options by releasing the instrumental versions of our album This Ain't Hollywood. As a free download of course.
During Eurosonic/Noorderslag we received the Interactive Award. This is a European award for bands that use the internet in a creative way to promote their music. We won the prize for the way we use torrents to spread our music.
The prize consists of a very ugly cup, two days of studiotime and 5000 euros. We will use this money to record another album. This budget is going to help us a lot to make this a very special one.
There were four other nominees (Blof, Zuco 103, Aart Lus & Ed Lip and Georgia Wonder). The decision was made by a jury combined with a voting round. Thank you all for voting!
We're very happy with the way things went in 2008! Although this still ain't Hollywood ofcourse... Anyway, two years ago we recorded a Christmas cover. A song called Jesus Blood Never Failed Me Yet of Tom Waits / Gavin Bryars fame. It sounds a bit more Sigur Ros / Mogwai than you are used to hear from us. Download it here!
There's even more Silence is Sexy Christmas joy to spread. About a week ago we played a Dutch national Radio / TV show called Freaknacht. DJ Giel Beelen asked us to make up a Christmas song in 20 minutes time. Together with rapper Algerino and fetish model Ancilla Tilia. So we took Night Out and turned it into Christmas Night Out. Enjoy!
